Too Late
Hello, people of the world. Here's a story called "Too Late" that I wrote. It's my first attempt at writing something so I have no idea if it's any good. If you read it please leave a comment and be as whatever as you want. It's just the first chapter. Rest of it will be up when the time comes. Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu.
Nadia sat up on her bed with a jolt, freaked out by her dream. “That... was... odd. Mom would never have random foreign guys at our place... Specially when they are a superstar AND when dad's not home.” She whispered to herself before shaking it out of her system. She started stretching on her bed and looked at the clock, which read 9:00 A.M. Realizing how late she was, Nadia squealed before running off to get ready for school. When she came out to the kitchen to grab a bite, she found her mother calmly doing the dishes.
“Mom, don't you have work today? You'll get late.” She asked, wondering why her mother hadn't left when it was already 9.
“It's 7 A.M.” Her mom said calmly.
“What??” She looked out at TV clock, which read 7:06 A.M. “But it says 9 on my clock... Did it break?” She said worriedly as she sat down at the breakfast table.
“I did that. And don't dare change it back! You're always so slow and forgetful that I thought this would help you out.” Her mom said slyly.
“Hey, that's not...” She started to say but stopped thinking that her mom was right and this would help her get ready faster. “...Eh. It's for the better I suppose.” Nadia's mom smiled at her as she gave he daughter a bowl of cereal for breakfast before returning to her kitchen duties. “Hey, when's dad coming back?” Nadia asked while stuffing her mouth with cereal.
“Ah! He just called this morning and said that he won't be back until October. This is the first time that he's been away for more than a week. But I guess it's better that he's not here... There'll be one more room...” She trailed off, buried in her own deep thoughts.
“One more room for what?” Nadia asked as she picked up her bowl to wash it in the sink. “Are we having some guests over??? Then I'm telling you right now that I'll be sleeping with you, and not on the couch.” She dreadfully looked at their couch while remembering the back aches it had caused her.
“No one's coming over! It's for nothing!! Wash the bowl well.” Her mom squeaked, flustered and trying to avoid it.
“O... K... Whatever.” She left the bowl on the counter to dry and wondered why her mom was being so weird. But since her mom said it was nothing, she didn't pay much attention to it
When she got on the public bus, she saw her best friend Rasia quietly sitting in a corner reading a book. Nadia yelled out, “Yo!! Rasia!!” And went up to her while flailing her arms in the air to get her attention. “Hey, why didn't you say hi?” Nadia said as she sat down.
“Because I didn't want everyone to know that I was friends with this weirdo.” She calmly said as she took off her glasses and hit Nadia on the head with the book. “And now because of you, everyone's staring.” Nadia looked around her to see most people on the bus giving her sideways glance. One man near the back door was glaring at her, so Nadia, who has a problem controlling her anger, glared back at him while making an angry face, forcing the man to look away.
“People need to find better things to look at.” Nadia mumbled angrily.
“For them, you are out of the ordinary, in a sense, better.” Rasia commented.
“Well, yeah whatever. Guess what?? I had the weirdest dream...” And Nadia told her the whole story about her with Yamazaki Tomio.
“Are you sure he was in your mom's bed?” Rasia said after listening to the whole story.
“Yeah, why?” Nadia said while chewing on crackers.
“Well, it's YOUR dream, shouldn't he be in YOUR bed??” Rasia asked matter-of-fact-ly.
She sighed and said, “I wish he was, but since I was sleeping mom put him in her bed.”
“Wow, a logical dream.” Rasia retorted.
“It's my mother.” Nadia grumbled back.
Just then the bus stopped in front of their school. Nadia plugged in her MP3 player's headphones in her ears and walked out of the bus dancing to the beat of the song. As soon as Rasia noticed Nadia being her weird self, she quickly walked away from her, leaving Nadia behind. Nadia didn't even realize that Rasia was gone until her song changed. When she did realize, she stopped on the crowded street to see where Rasia was. She turned around to look behind her, to see if she left Rasia behind. As she was about to turn around and go to school, someone bumped into her from behind, making her drop her Mp3 player. She turned around to yell at the person, but he was already down on his knees to pick it up. He came back up to hand her the Mp3 player, while looking very guilty.
“I'm so sorry!! I didn't see you there, and I was in a rush! I'm so sorry!!!” He had a slight Japanese accent and his dark hair covered his eyes. He was wearing a sports jacket over a casual T-shirt and jeans and he would bow every time he said the word sorry. Nadia was dumbfounded for a while, recognizing the person in front of her. She quickly composed herself and said “Thank you very much” as she received her Mp3 player from. The wire from the headphones was caught up in his hands so Nadia gave him a hand unwrapping it. She had to take out the headphones from the Mp3 player to do so, so everyone around them could hear the song she was listening to. The man smiled as he heard the song and asked “Oh, a Japanese song? Do you know the singer?”
“Of course I do,” she said with a smile, “Who wouldn't know you, Yamazaki Tomoi.”
Too Late
